Aldo Gutierrez suffered from bilateral pterygia, one of which was a kissing pterygium, for 15 years. With his eyesight progressively worsened, working and driving at night was a challenge. The growth of the pterygium was so severe that Aldo feared that without help he would lose his sight. However, due to lack of insurance and money he was unable to get the help he needed until he went to his local clinic, Share Our Selves, where he was referred to AccessOC Southern California. AccessOC coordinated for Aldo to see an ophthalmologist who happily agreed to volunteer and help Aldo. On March 8 2017, Aldo got his kissing pterygium removed and once fully healed will receive surgery on his other eye.
